Using Green Roofs for Social Housing to Improve Energy Consumption in New Cities. (An Applied Study of Social Housing in Egypt’s New Cairo City)

Green roofs are an effective way to solve many environmental problems. New cities in Egypt have recently suffered from increasing energy consumption as a result of construction density resulting population growth, which has decreased green spaces Egyptian cities. This paper aims improve the cooling and heating social housing new urban Egypt, reduce high temperatures inside outside building, decrease heat island effect. To achieve these aims, study suggests method that is based on modifying traditional roof residential by converting it roof. An integrated analysis model including strategy shows climatic benefits using provide external outdoor temperature buildings. The revealed roofs, used 50% buildings, were shown be efficient reducing annual 12% decreasing average buildings 2.44°C, whereas was reduced 3°C.
